Bitumen is a hydrocarbon substance that exists in different colors and is easily dissolved in substances such as carbon sulfur and tetrachlorocarbon. This substance is solid at room temperature and turns into a paste when the temperature increases. Bitumen consists of various materials and compounds and has various uses, including in moisture insulation and asphalt construction. Also, bitumen is divided into two main categories: natural bitumen, which is found under oil hills and lakes, and refined bitumen, which is obtained from the sedimentation of crude oil.
(VG) Viscosity Bitumen
Viscosity bitumen is a category of bitumen in which high viscosity or bioavailability is observed. Viscosity means the material’s resistance to water flow and absorption.
(PG) Penetrating Bitumen
Permeated bitumen is a type of refinery bitumen produced from crude oil distillation or by blowing air into a vacuum baton. This bitumen has a low viscosity and easily penetrates the pores of the material.
Functional bitumen
Functional bitumen is a type of bitumen that is graded according to its performance in specific conditions. This classification is evaluated and determined based on the understanding of bitumen behavior and its functional characteristics.
